Next to were she sat was a weeping willow it long low hanging branches had a serene sadness to it in the low light of the bay. She moved to the tree and sat under its branches, shielding her from the eyes of the outside would. She opened her mind and her heart letting Lily flow into shared control of her body as they looked out to the stars. She opened her mouth slowly she sang a few notes has a song began to flow from her lips. Silver light She turned her face up to the starlit sky And on this night began to wonder why She knew that soon the day would come Born to be An heir of beauty and serenity Into this world she entered quietly To her surprise she was the one Destiny was close behind her Phantom of borrowed life And the sea was a reminder Mirror of given light Then one day The sign she'd waited for in skies of grey Traversed a winding road and came her way She found the love she hoped she would But she knew That she had promises to stay true to The dormant daughter of the silver moon Then all at once she understood Destiny was close behind her Phantom of borrowed life And the sea was a reminder Mirror of given light From the sky She watched the life She'd known she would leave behind Said goodbye And gave her people Life through her sacrifice (NRPG link to the actual song: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW25nrh-mxo ) She sat there under the tree letting her song fall into silence. It had been to long since she 'Lily' had been allowed to sing. A tear fell from her face she knew not the reason. But at this time she felt it was something that needed to be done. To accept all of herself the good and the bad. To accept Jessica and Lily when few others were. He stepped off the central path to inspect the striking bright blue blossom of a cornflower, the national flower of his homeland. ~I haven't seen one of these since I joined Starfleet,~ he thought with a smile. Just as he leaned over to smell it, he heard the opening lines of a song. He had no idea the bay was rigged to play music, but he thought it was a very nice touch. As he listened, however, he realized the music wasn't coming from a speaker, but from deeper in the bay. He peered through a space in the foliage and spotted Jessica sitting under a willow tree singing a beautiful, sad song. He sat down and leaned back against the bay's outer wall to listen. The voice was unmistakably Jessica's but there was something else in it, some kind of ethereal quality that made it slightly different from her normal speaking voice. Alex didn't realize until the song was over that he'd been holding his breath. He sat for a long moment after the last note had faded, hating to spoil the perfect silence that followed. Slowly he rose to his feet and made his way as quietly as possible to the exit. As she had passed it, she heard a melody that brought up feelings, which, seemed that memories should have been with it, but, there was only the feelings that she knew the tune. She had entered the bay and found a hiding place after she noticed Jessica. She also saw Hartmann enter from the other side to also find a hiding place. She sat and listened to the song trying to figure why did Jessica and she knew this song as she didn't remember ever being around her. The song suddenly brought up feelings of longing, which, she did not know for what. Ansia wanted to go and sit under the weeping willow knowing it was the perfect spot in the garden to think, but, Jessica was there. She was about to leave because Hartmann was there when she noticed him quietly leave. Then she changed her mind and slowly moved in under the willow with Jessica. The voice came up from behind her. Jessica closed her eyes. She knew who it was from her voice there was a familiar yet foreign feel to it. She was the last person Jessica wanted to meet now. She responded slowly "I don't remember where I have heard that particular song. Maybe from some place deep in my past." She chose her words carefully, trust had to be built and the simple fact was both had more reasons to distrust each other than to find trust and common ground. But the Captain had given his orders she was to be accepted into one of the crew til she gave just cause other than her past not to be trusted. It was a fair choice and one Jessica could not argue with not given her own dark past to haunt her. "Since we are both here, I guess introductions are in order. Yawning from the day's challenges, setbacks and habitual duties Matrix sat back in the lounge chair and closed his eyes. Reflecting on the mission ahead, he noticed how tired he really was. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he slept or ate. "Hi Steve" Tom said. Startled Matrix opened his eyes and composed himself. "Hi Tom." Tom went on " What's your take on the mission?" "Daunting. We are to send an away team back to Quezal, this time undetected. Once we get on the surface we need to blend in and identify any operatives, figure out what they are there for and determine a course of action. The away team will be rather large in my opinion so we'll need to split into smaller squads, each with their own objectives." started Matrix. "The team will include Matrix, Jackson, Signos, M'epak, Callum, Bruce, Brown and Rozen. I'm thinking two teams, but I haven't thought it all through yet. Eight people moving as a group might cause suspicion." continued Matrix. "Steve, should we alter our appearance to resemble the locals? " "That may be the most convincing option we have. The Captain doesn't want to risk alerting the Quezalth of our presence. We don't really know how they would react and we can't risk getting detained or incarcerated. Not to mention altering a new timeline. Since we will be arriving at a time prior to our first encounter we have an advantage and an obvious task." replied Matrix. "Also, what are the rules if we run into opposition?" "We'll deal with things as they unfold, but I won't risk the away team's lives. If we had a bit more time I'd suggest we all go through our infiltration, evade and escape training again." Matrix said without first realizing the irony of his comment. "Let's work on the mission specifics. We need to assign team members, responsibilities and objectives. Once that's done we'll call the away team to a briefing. I'd like to talk with the doctor about alterations. Perhaps I can be a bit taller this time?" said Matrix with a smile. But carrying out the duty of a Starfleet officer didn't allow the luxury of choosing whether or not to follow occasional unpleasantness. This was unpleasant enough to make him sprint. He'd spent several hours running down what appeared to be a rather unusual power drain on the ships' systems. When he'd found it, he was disturbed and shocked by the information. He'd developed a working theory, crazy as it might sound. But there was only one way to confirm it. He stopped outside the door to the observation lounge and took a breath before tapping the door chime. "Lieutenant Brown, permission to enter?" (Reply Matrix and/or Jackson) -- (assuming permission is granted to avoid a really short post!) As the doors slid open Dan stepped quickly inside. He brought himself to attention as he'd been taught at the academy, and scrutinized both senior officers in turn, with a great deal more attention being paid to Matrix. "Sirs, pardon the interruption, but I'm here on a most urgent matter," he began rather formally. "I've spent much of the late afternoon and early evening running down an anomaly in the ships' power grid. I've investigated, and ruled out an equipment malfunction. The EPS system is functioning perfectly. But we have a notable power drain, which we've traced to stellar cartography. Now, mind you that their sensor and processing equipment does draw a good deal of power, varying, as you know, by specific tasking and whatnot. Operations actually flagged the power consumption as being well over planned usage. So, I've spent several hours checking hardware and associated systems. The power is being consumed inside stellar cartography for certain. But here's the oddity... as the Chief Engineer, no ships' system should be inaccessible to me; but I find I'm being blocked from further investigation by encrypted command codes." He paused just a brief moment, then finished with the obvious. "You two gentlemen, plus the Captain, are the only three officers aboard with that authority." Before either officer could respond, he went on. "I'm glad you're here, Commander Jackson. Since I just tripped across this other little... oddity..." He'd held off as long as he could... as long as he dared. "Computer, locate Commander Matrix." [Commander Matrix is located in the Observation Lounge Stellar Cartography] "Say again?" Ansia Rozen - 2130) After Ensign Hartmann left, Ansia sat thinking on things that happened during the time since she came on board. The people she had met, the discussions she had, the info she had gathered and the information exchange she had. She knew that all the information she has given to the captain, he should have known. There was something that bothered her, Ensign Hartmann, there was something in him she wanted to know. She also wanted him to know more about her and why she joined S31. Getting up and changing into a long red lounge dress and let her hair down she walk over to his door. Reaching up she presses the door chime. Alex was still awake when the door chime rang. ~Well, I certainly won't get any sleep with visitors showing up. Still, a little distraction might help.~ "Who is it?" He called out. “Ensign Rozen, I hope you don’t mind, I can’t sleep. May I come in neighbor.” she smiled at the last as she remembered him suggesting it. She could sense he was alone which she smiled at. Alex hadn't expected to see Ansia again so soon, and he suddenly became suspicious of her motives. He reminded himself to control his feelings around her as much as possible. "Sure, it's open," he shouted. His eyes widened as Ansia stepped into the room wearing her sleek red dress. She was definitely up to something, but Alex decided to play things light. He looked her up and down, then turned his gaze to his own grey shorts and t-shirt. "I suddenly feel under dressed," he grinned. Ansia feels his anxiety, but, understood as they had already discussed things earlier. With what the two knew of each other, his suspiciousness was understandable and expected. At the sound of his voice she opens the door and enters. She smiles at the look he gave her, but, decides to faired knowing what she felt from him and continued in. “I apologize if you don’t think I am dressed appropriately” she said in response. “you are ok neighbor, stay comfortable, I just wanted to let you know a bit more of my reasons for the choices I have made. That way maybe you wont look at me so badly, would that be ok with you?” she said as she sat in the living portion area. "That wasn't a complaint," Alex replied. "And sure. If you feel like talking, I'll be glad to listen." She turns to look at him to see if he was going to join her or lay in bed. Getting up she walks to the replicator and orders, “Jestral tea, warm” then receives it which takes back and sits again. She watches as he puts on some more clothes and walks over to her. She pats the couch beside her wanting him to join her. “My tale is not going to be easy to go through I can tell you now. It took a lot out of me when I told the captain.” Alex raised an eyebrow, but decided to join her on the couch anyway. "All right," he said. "Are you sure you feel up to telling it again?" She sips her tea as he settles close to her. “If I wasn’t you think I would be here.” she replied knowing he was trying to figure out what she was up to. She started when she was young and about her family who they were and how many, Then she went into who her mom and dad where and about what she knew of hat they did, then stopped. “I am telling you the real truth not the official truth of Strafleet. For some reason they don’t want the truth to come out. But, I found it in my investigations. You can find anything if you know how.” she told him giving a little of what she could do, then, she paused to see if possibility he might have questions for her. Alex was suddenly full of questions. "If you just confessed all this for the first time today, is it possible that Section 31 thinks you're still an agent? What would happen if they tried to contact you again? And how would they even do it? Do they have a way to track you through different timelines?" She was right he was a curious one. Looking down to the carpet, “Yes, I am telling you everything that I told the captain, but, I still have more.” she replied, then started on the harder part. “I am from this timeline, bur, as I have told you earlier, I have time traveled once. But, let’s get on with the story before that. I found that my parents were part of Starfleet intelligence working on a n undercover outpost when it was attacked which killed almost everyone there including my family.” she paused to wipe the tears from her eyes before starting again. “Many years later in my very determined investigation, I found out the real report on it. They were working on a treaty with one of two warring factions and the other side found out then destroyed the outpost where the talks had been happening. From that point all I wanted to do was help Starfleet and defend it. That is when S31 contacted me through my Starfleet academy roommate, telling me everything I wanted to hear, so, I joined up. Later in my work for them I found out all the rest about them, but, it was too late, I was already theirs.” she stopped knowing more questions would come. So far, the things Ansia said sounded surprisingly reasonable. He could certainly picture S31 presenting themselves to potential recruits in a way that would most appeal to them. After all, in their own twisted way, they even seemed to believe they were defenders of Starfleet. Alex was a bit dismayed to find out Rozen was from this timeline, as it meant he was once again the only one who didn't belong here. His problems could wait, however. Right now he wanted to focus on Ansia's story. He placed a comforting hand on hers. "So why did you time travel before?" She places her hand his thankful for the comfort from him. Since she had been on the Soval, she has received none, even when she reveled secrets. “As, far as I know they haven’t figured it out yet unless there is another operative here I don’t know of. Also, If they try to contact me, I would get it I guess, then I would let the captain know. There are agents in different timelines, how they get information from one to another, that I have not been able to find yet. How do they know if I am back now, I suspect only from another operative on board.” she stopped still holding his hand then laid her head on his shoulder. Alex tensed a bit and decided to end the conversation before things got out of hand. "I appreciate you telling me all this, Ansia, and I enjoyed the company, but I really should turn in. I'm expecting to have my exams tomorrow so I have to get up early." He stood and guided her towards the door. "I would recommend you try talking to the captain tomorrow and letting him know everything you told me that he didn't hear before. Maybe he'll find something useful and decide to put more faith in you." She knew immediately that she had overstepped and that he was trying to hide the information she wanted to see if he knew. She could try another time to see if he could be trusted with the information. Getting up as he was trying to guide her to the door, “I hope you didn’t get the wrong impression, but, I am thankful to have been able to tell you my story, hopefully now you won’t think too bad of me, good night.” she finished as he rushed her out, then she turned and entered her quarters and bed. The bad thing was that she did and didn't like him, she couldn't decide which at this point and did not want to get him into trouble being with her or did she. She managed to get the screen opened and climbed into the crawl space then silently crawled around till she managed to find the quarters across from her, Ensign Hartmann. Meticulously she worked on the fasteners of his maintenance hatch, finally getting them off and opened it. Waiting for a bit till she was sure that he was asleep before she managed to enter. She managed to get to the floor without any noise and crouched there till her eyes adjusted to the darkness. That way she could see to walk around. She did until she turned the corner to his bedroom and stood there watching him sleep for a little bit. She had a glint of mischief in her eyes if anyone was looking at her. She thought of taking her clothes off and laying beside him, but, then thought he might not like that, then their budding friendship would be over. She stood there for a bit then thought of something, she went to the replictor, typed in her request to be quieter and when it came she put it on the living room table, a small vase with one pink, her favorite color, rose in it. Then she silently retraced her actions that got her in there. She slowly managed to close everything up and she was in her room. He and Commander Jackson has spent hours detailing the away mission, but he wanted to go over the plans again. It was a daunting task, but everyone on the team was professional and committed. As FO he found himself worrying about away missions more and more. There was a real possibility that he would be sending some of the crew or even himself to an early death. He faced similarly dangerous missions countless times and was accustom to the stresses, but the younger officers and crew were not. It was his job to ensure they would return, learn from their experiences and progress in their respective careers. "Coffee black, hot." said Matrix as he watched the replicator deposit the request into an unremarkable container. He took it and leaned against the outward facing bulkhead and observed the tranquil stars in his darkened quarters. Reflecting on the irony of the coming mission he wished he had more time to prepare for what was to come. He had already dispatched the mission briefing and assigned 'kits' to each team member. In it they would find their specific tasks and suggested equipment, maps and intel. It was up to each of them to study, memorize and execute once the mission was underway. The team briefing was simply a formality to answer any questions and an opportunity for him to assess the team's readiness. It was a gut check. Taking a sip of the coffee he noted it was already cold. Staring briefly at the mug he placed it back into the replicator for recycling. He was hungry and he didn't like eating alone in his quarters. Ten Forward would be serving anything he desired and he was craving eggs, hash browns and pancakes. ~Why not?~ (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ============ (USS Soval - Crew quarters – aCTO Ensign(jg) Alexander Hartmann - 0600) Alex stretched as he sat up in his bunk. "Computer, time," he half-yawned. "The current time is 0600 hours," the Soval's computer replied. Given his exhaustion and lack of morning duties, Hartmann was surprised he hadn't actually slept longer. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and made his groggy way to the closet. He pulled on his uniform and stepped into his boots, then headed to his replicator for some breakfast. ~That tea Ansia had last night smelled pretty good,~ he thought. ~What was it called? Ah, the computer will remember.~ "Repeat last order," he said to the replicator. He reached for the cup and was puzzled to instead find a vase containing a single pink rose. He turned around and for the first time noticed a matching vase and rose sitting in the center of his table. He approached the vase and picked it up to inspect it. There was no writing, no card or tag, nothing to indicate how it might have gotten there. "Computer," he asked on a hunch, "list the times of the last two replicator orders." "The last two replicator orders were placed at 2350 hours yesterday and 0610 hours today." Alex set the vase down and scratched his head. After a few more questions to the computer, he determined that his cabin door was last accessed when Ansia left the previous night, and no one had entered his room since. ~But that door is the only way in here, except for....~ His gaze turned to the ventilation grill on the wall. An examination of the fasteners proved that they weren't fully tightened, as though they were closed from inside the duct. The duct that led directly to Rozen's room. Well, that answered the who and how, now to find out why. Alex decided to pay his neighbor a little visit. ********** (USS Soval - Crew quarters – aCTO Ensign(jg) Alexander Hartmann, Yeoman Ensign j.g. Ansia Rozen - 0615) An was sound asleep having went to bed rather late when her door chime awoke her. "Who is it?" she asked rather loud so they can hear her. "It's Alex," Hartmann called through the door. "Are you up yet?" "I am now" she answered him, "Please come in, you in the living room." Turning to the side of the bed, lowering her feet into her slippers and grabbing her robe she put it on as she stood up. Tying the belt as she walked in while extending her hand in greeting. "now, how can I help you this early in the morning?" she asked Alex reached out to accept her hand. "I found something interesting in my cabin this morning. Right on the table was a vase with a pink rose in it. Do you know anything about that?" Sitting down on the couch pulling her legs up under her. Looking at him with the best innocent look she was trained to put up, "why would you think I would?" she replied to him, "you sent me home remember?" "Well, I did some investigating," Alex said sitting next to her. "Part of the job, you know. It turns out no one went in or out my door after you left. I did notice, however, that the ventilation duct that runs between our cabins had been opened, from your side. Now, the computer didn't track anyone entering my room, but I would expect that if someone was wearing, say, a robe and pajamas instead of a uniform and com badge. Speaking of which, I see you're dressed entirely in pink, which just happens to be the color of the rose I found. And last but not least is the fact that you're obviously full-on infatuated with me." He punctuated the last comment with a wink and sat back to hear Ansia's argument. An did not even blink at his hypothesis and knowing that she had not wore a robe or gown, knew he was fishing. Smiling at this she answered him calmly, “As I might like you a lot, I did not enter your quarters, and, you need to stop thinking everyone is infatuated with you” putting her finger to her lips to silence him till she was finished, “I will admit I did investigate the ventilation/maintenance duct, it is tied to all the quarters on this floor, so, your theory that I was the one that used it to go into your quarters simply doesn’t pan out. As for the coloration of my pink gown to the rose doesn’t connect either as I have different colored robes.” Alex smiled. He knew she would deny everything. The only part that really surprised him was her admission that she liked him. "Well, someone that wasn't me put that rose in my room," he said. "You're telling me it wasn't you?" She watched his demeaner as he was talking and she did not sense that he was upset about it. She also did not want someone else to take credit for the rose. “Ok, I did put the rose there. I could not sleep, but, did not want to wake you, you looked so peaceful. I hope you are not mad at me.” She smiled shyly. Alex was taken aback, but did his best to hide it. He knew Ansia was the one who left the flower, but he didn't expect her to own up to it so quickly. "I'm not mad," he replied, "but I'll be honest, I do wish you hadn't sneaked in while I was sleeping. It doesn't exactly do wonders for my sense of security, you know?" The corner of his mouth curled in a curious smile. "So why did you leave the rose, anyway?" She looked down a bit shy and smiled at his question. Shy put some stray hairs behind her ear as she looked up at him. “I wanted you to know I like you and I will promise you I will not do that again, while you are asleep.” "Well then," Hartmann said while standing up, "that's settled. Sorry for waking you up so early. I thank you for the rose, and for the promise. Of course, when I'm awake and in my cabin, you're welcome to stop by." He opened the door but stopped and turned around before exiting. "I suppose you may not be the worst person ever," he said with a wink before returning to his room. Ansia decided that since she was up and that she had a mission brief at 0830, she needed to get it done. “Ensign Rozen to Lt. Bruce.” she called after activating her comm, =/\=hmm Lt. The young ensign seemed quite happy. It was nice to see someone full of dreams and ambition. Jennifer, realizing her inquiry could seem weird for the ensign, added "Before joining Starfleet Intelligence, I was a Chief Science Officer. So, I was asked to give my opinion about you. It seems they have followed it, since you are on board. I was quite amazed by your work on space radiation." " Thank you." Morris grinned. " I can't take all of the credit, but radiation is one of my passions, I guess." he continued after taking a more comfortable position. " I have been busy myself, getting orientated to the ship and my duty schedule, so I haven't had much time to meet the majority of the crew yet, but it is on the top of my list." Jennifer smiled. "Yeah, a Galaxy-class ship is quite a home. I was lucky my career started on a very small ship. A Defiant-class. Didn't took me long to know each crew members. You only have an additionnal 950 crew members to know." she smiled. "I can understand this mission isn't really giving you the opportunity. You were certainly quite busy with the anomaly. They were a mix of seasoned and the inexperienced, but he had the most confidence in each of them. Standing atop of one of the deployment lockers, Matrix stood facing the away team while the deployment crews continued to catalog and ready their gear at the other end of the cargo bay. "Good morning." started Matrix. (Reply any - IYW) "You all should have received your mission briefings via your deployment PADDs. I know they were distributed late yesterday, but not to worry. You'll have time to review and study them before we depart." Matrix continued. "I have served with many of you for some time now...others of you just a short time. This mission in particular we've all had a hand in what's at stake and now it seems we have a new opportunity for a second chance. A chance to get it right and uncover the true nature of what has already happened...at least from our point of view. We are to travel back to Quezal, blend in with the indigenous Quezalth and uncover anything unusual that would have or will lead to the events we witnessed before traveling back in time. I know that is a vague and nebulous task, but this is a most unusual mission." "Commander Jackson and I will lead the team as a whole, but we may need to split up as the mission unfolds. If we get separated for any reason the most senior officer by rank will be in charge. Any questions so far?" asked Matrix. (Reply Jackson, Signos, M'epak, Callum, Bruce, Brown and Rozen - IYW) "Commander Jackson will brief us shortly on the latest intel, but I would like to get underway by 2000 hours. The cover of darkness will help us get to Quezal undetected. It's not that he was nervous or scared but in fact rather excited as the away mission will allow him to prove himself worthy of his newly appointed role of Chief Science Officer. With that the ensign began studying the mission briefing on his datapad further. (Reply None) (Posted by Yeates) ============ (USS Soval - Deck 39, Cargo Bay Alpha - CEO Lt(jg) Brown - 0835) Brown was busily checking his equipment along with the rest of the away team. Out of the corner of his eye he caught Commander Matrix climbing on a deployment locker. ~The ancient soapbox reborn?~ he mused idly. Matrix quickly laid out the broad strokes of the mission, then called for questions. "I have two, Commander. First, as you recall the last time we went to the surface 'covertly' we had the benefit of some pretty nasty atmospheric disturbances to hide behind. Do we have a cover/deception plan for insertion this time? And secondly, what about rules of engagement? I presume we're to avoid or at the very least minimize contact with the natives. If contact can't be avoided, any particular rules of engagement in place sir?" (Reply Matrix, Any) Brown listened intently as the Commander addressed the questions, mentioning specifically the cover of darkness for insertion. ~I sure hope that's enough to get us in...~ He turned toward Jackson in anticipation of the intel portion of the briefing. (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ) ============ (USS Soval - Deck 39 - Cargo Bay Alpha - CTO Ensign(sg) Jessica Signos - 0838) Jessica listened to Matrix and Jackson plot out the outline of the mission and what they were hoping to accomplish. Jessica only wished for a mission that required such tactical insight that they had asked for her input before now. When Matrix asked for questions Jessica was not shy about her concerns. "Yes sir, what is the main focus of the mission. To discover what or who is involved in the planets destruction or to minimize the explosive force of the reactor explosion." She glanced around at the gathered officers. Her comments was more of statement than a question. "Either way we will be under an extreme time restraint. We don't have the time to be chasing ghost and if we try to investigate the planet that's exactly what we will do, and waste what little time we have." She took a breath looking as what she said took hold. "If you want my opinion we need to get to the reactor, and defend it. If we interfere with the attackers plan they will come to us to stop us." She spoke calmly. Has for needing alterations to our apperiance. Won't that do more harm than good if we are discovered or scanned. Remember we are in the past no one on the planet knows who we are or what our plans are anyway. Plus isn't Quealth a federation planet at this time. We need to blend in with the federation officers planetside. Finally there is a issue with keeping the timeline. We are minus officers that are at the sight of the explosion or so the evidence says. If we damage the timeline we can cause untold reprocessions in the future." She spoke her concerns and hoped her past would not harm her point of view to badly among her superior officers. Jessica knew Matrix and Jackson and they were normally level headed. (Reply any) (Posted by Tony) ============ (USS Soval, Deck 10, Ten Forward, CTO Ensign(sg) Jessica Signos and aCTO Ensign (jg) Alexander Hartmann - 1130) Now that he had some time to kill between his exams and his mission briefing, Hartmann decided to take an early lunch. He made his way to Ten Forward and ordered up a plate of beef tacos, black beans and fried rice from one of the replicators. When he turned to find a seat he noticed Jessica sitting alone at a corner table. He approached her with a smile and asked "Care for some company?" Looking up from her own lunch she smiled. "Please, go ahead." Alex took the seat across from her. "You'll be happy to know," he said as he spread the food and utensils out before him, "that I'm not sick and I'm not crazy. Now if I can just convince you that I'm not going to blow the place up I think the captain should let me stick around for a while." She smiled, "That's good to hear." She took a bite of food from her plate. Washing down with a bit of water. "I am sure the Captain will be glad to hear you've been given a clean bill of heath. Has for myself I never figured you for the type who would want to blow the place up." "That's comforting," Alex chuckled and took a bite of his own lunch. "Ensign Rozen paid me a visit last night. I was under the impression that she came from another timeline too, but she says she's a native. I guess I'm the only lucky one." "She did now." She folded her hands before her. "She is a wild card, we will have to see if she can be trusted." Jessica sighed. "But I guess the same can be said about me, and I don't want to seem hypocritical of her. Time will tell." "Funny you mention that," Alex replied. "I was just thinking that even though she and I got off on the wrong foot, the more we talk the more I realize she's better than I first thought. Reminds me of someone else I know." Her eyes narrow on Alex then soften as she speaks. "And she may there is no doubt in my mind that the two of us have similarities but I will not allow that to get in the way of my duty. That's one reason I have been avoiding contact with her." Takes another bite of her lunch. "Besides till this mission is over the less contact we have the better for both of us. I'm sure the captain is watching both of us. Less contact means the likelihood that we are working together for S31." Alex sensed he had insulted Jessica with his remark. "Sorry Chief, I meant the situation reminded me of you. At our first meeting you aimed a phaser rifle at me, but now I think we're getting along pretty well." He smiled at the thought. "I get that some of the crew don't trust you, but I'm not one. You may still technically be an operative for S31, but I can't believe you'd work for them willingly. As far as Ansia goes, I really don't know what to think. She definitely talks a good game, and if I didn't know better I'd swear she was trying to seduce me last night. I want to trust her like I trust you, but I can't shake all my doubts. I would definitely feel better about things if she would tell the captain everything she knows, like I suggested." "Do not apologize for speaking your mind and being open with me. I rather you be that way. I need to know that I have someone behind me to tell me when thing have gone to far. As for the Captain that's something she needs to do and it will happen, when she is ready for it to happen." "You're right," Alex sighed. "I suppose I should stop worrying so much. Like a wise man once said: 'You got to do what you can and let mother nature do the rest'." "And sometimes it's the best option. Right now we are battling the clock on so much do we really need to throw another wrench in the works." She finished what was left of her meal before looking at Alex. "So enough with work for the time being. What do you do to have fun?" "Well, there's the holodeck of course," Alex said. "I especially like flight simulations. You know, trying out the bridges of different ship classes to see how they handle. Sometimes I just like to wander through them and get to know the layouts too. Aside from that, I like to listen to music, and play some once in a while. I'm decent with a few instruments, but not great at any of them, unfortunately. I am pretty good at dancing though, if I say so myself. So what about you? What do you like to do besides hang out in hydroponics?" If I'm in the holodeck, I'm normally training, practicing my martial arts, or dancing. I normally follow an unorthodox training regiment. I was trained in jazz, ballet, and acrobatics when I was young. Hydroponics, I love being surrounded by plants so I love being in hydroponics. The sweet smells of the flowers. My quarters is filled with small plants mostly ones used for making tea. I find fresh homemade tea carry a far better taste and aroma." Alex pushed his empty plate aside and leaned forward. "Homemade tea sounds great," he said with a grin. "I can't remember the last time I had anything that didn't come out of a replicator. And I don't know much about ballet, but if you ever need a partner for just about anything else I'm your guy." Jessica smiled "Sounds fun." "You know you're welcome at my place any time," Alex said, returning the smile. "Well, thanks for the company, Chief. I suppose I should get back to...well, waiting." He stood up and stretched his back, then looked back to Jessica. "I'm really glad I was wrong about you." "I take that as a compliment. But you ate right I am sure we both have task that need to be finished before the away mission to the planet." She stood gathering her now empty plates preparing to take them to be recycled. "Good bye." She finished as she prepared to leave. "I'll catch you later Chief. Oh, and watch your six down there. I'll keep your seat warm until you get back." Alex smiled, threw a quick salute and turned to leave the lounge. (Reply none) (Posted by Tony and Matthew) ============ (USS Soval - Deck 10, Liaison Office - CIO Lieutenant Jennifer Bates - 1404) We know the how and where, but do we know what type of explosive was used." Jason asked. " Depending on the type of explosive, each gives off a unique signature we could track." Hartmann raised his hand. "Pardon me ma'am, but did you say our mission is to prevent the explosion? I thought it already...ah." He paused, realization dawning. "The anomaly?" Jennifer realized she had almost forgotten Hartmann was coming from another reality. So he and Jason could not have been at the academy together... or at least not 'this' Hartmann. And that is why he was perhaps not aware of their travelling through time. "You are correct Ensign Hartmann. Even before it became a bridge between realities, this anomaly throwed us six months into the past. So we actually witnessed the consequence of the explosion and we are now a few days before the explosion, knowing it will explode...and also knowing that some of us may die in the attempt of preventing it once again. Faith they say... what will happen could already be determined...I don't believe any of it. But we need to respect the Temporal Prime Directive" Jennifer mind started to wander . "Enough of it. Now, to answer Ensign Morris question, actually it is not explosive. Section 31, I assume, are way to clever for that. It's more like a bacteria. It ate chemically the casing of the reactor, causing its integrity to fail and the reactor to explode. The explosion look natural, as if the reactor deteriorated slowly over years...but I remember Lieutenant Signos reporting it was a matter of hours for the bacteria to do its work. So it's quite fast." Jennifer had several notes taken, but she started searching for the one about the bacteria used. "There was nothing left of the bacteria when we investigated. So we are not quite sure yet what section 31 used. But based on the intel we have, it could be one of those". She said, giving the Padd to Ensign Morris. "Chemistry was not my specialty in science. Perhaps you understand it more than I do." she said to Ensign Morris, and Lieutenant-Commander Noah. So not only did he shift into a new timeline, but the Soval was actually 6 months prior to where it should be in that timeline. ~I'm really starting to hate that anomaly.~ Bates' warning about the possibility of death, while true of any potentially dangerous away mission, did nothing to improve Alex's mood. He watched Morris and Noah study the information on the Lieutenant's PADD. Alex already knew Noah was good at what he did, and if this Jason Morris was anything like the one he'd met then he definitely knew his stuff as well. He was glad the scientific portion of the mission was in such good hands, because he was certainly no chemist. It seemed to him that his role in the mission would be to protect the people who actually had a clue what they were looking for. If he could help uncover some Section 31 operatives in the process, so much the better. He just hoped it wasn't anyone he knew. Perhaps you understand it more than I do." she said to Ensign Morris, and Lieutenant-Commander Noah. Jason willingly took the PADD from Lt. Bates and began to run down the list of possible bacteria's displayed. After a few moments he passed the information to Lieutenant-Commander Noah for his expert analysis and input. " Given this information Ma'am," Jason began looking back at Bates. " There are a couple that could be the one used on the reactor, but most would have to have been in contact with the casting for some time to cause a breech. Morris sat back into his chair for a moment as he ran different organism's through his mind that could possibly have caused a rapid deterioration of the reactors casing. "Lt., section 31 would have needed to have some agent that would cause a rapid chemical reaction because of the danger of being detected in maintenance checks, but it would have to make it look like something that happen over a long period of time so that any investigation would show it was an accident." (Reply Any) " My best guess is that it was a combination of agents and one of those could have been nanotechnology ." Jason stated. The ensign then looked at the different bacterias. "Lt., section 31 would have needed to have some agent that would cause a rapid chemical reaction because of the danger of being detected in maintenance checks, but it would have to make it look like something that happen over a long period of time so that any investigation would show it was an accident." Jennifer was very attentive. The ensign seemed to have found something. "Yes, but which one?" " My best guess is that it was a combination of agents and one of those could have been nanotechnology ." Jason stated. " That would account for the quick and rapid destruction of the reactors casing and they could be programed to become active at a certain time after the other agent had began scarring and corroding the metal." ~Nanotechnology~ she wondered. She was no engineer. Morris seemed much more competent than her on the subject. But she was curious about the ensign hypothesis and wanted to put it to the test. "But Nanotechnology can't be introduced in a material easily. Are you proposing they were already there, in the casing? I thought the reactor was half a century old. Section 31 could not have use nanotechnology back then. So how could they have introduced it? Maintenance?" she asked. Perhaps the ensign already had the answer. (Reply Morris or any) (Posted by Nick) ============ (USS Soval - Deck 11, Holodecks 2 - CIO Lieutenant Jennifer Bates - 2147) Her team had been practising for a little while. The first few times were rather goofy. The team didn't had the coordination to complete the tasks quickly and successfully leading to mistakes that eventually lead to the failure of the mission. But after a while, it started to get better. Now, she wanted to test them at a critical moment. "Let's switch to the next test. This time we are two hours away from the explosion. Our team discovered that there were traitors from Section 31 among the first away team who incapacited the other members and went inside the reactors. We learned about the treachery because Quezalth discovered the first away team unconscious members within the reactor facility and are now on alert. So they took every precaution to block the entrance of the reactor. They have seen us and they are trying to catch us. So we have two hours to evade them, get around their security and stop the Section 31 from completing their mission." she explained. "Ready?" As the members nodded, she activated the simulation. They were gathered not very far from the entrance of the reactor. In front of them, two security guards screamed "Here they are!" They were coming from the direction of the reactor so they were blocking the way in. Soon, security would be crowding in front of the reactor making it almost impossible to get in. They had to get within the reactor right away while eluding the guards. "This way" she said, hinting them to move right. For a brief moment they would be able to get out of sight from the two security. But what to do next? Alex followed Jennifer's lead to the right of the reactor entrance. "We need to get in there fast," he said when the rest of the team had gathered together. "I don't think shooting our way past everyone is going to work. What if some of us pretend to be saboteurs who were captured by the rest of us? We're turning in our prisoners to the Quezalth as a sign of cooperation, but we'll only turn them over to the head of security in the reactor. If it works, they'll just let us all walk inside."
